The Mimi Fairy (aka The Binky Fairy)

At about a year old, as Katie began talking her binky became known as her "mimi". We thought it was something she picked up from daycare but they assured us that it was all her and, in fact, that she'd gotten the other kids to call their pacifiers by this name and the teachers began referring to them all as "mimis" too. We've never been too hung up on her having a pacifier and using it (some would say overusing it), but it kept her fingers and other things out of her mouth and unlike a thumb it can be taken away if/when need be. Well, around her birthday this year we cut back to having the mimi only in bed and in the car. And we started talking about the Mimi Fairy - how she comes to get all your mimis and leaves you a special treat. K has always resisted it and since bed/car mimis haven't been an issue for us, we never pushed it. She really didn't use them all that often - even spitting them out before falling asleep. But a few times she's complained about her teeth hurting so we started in with the Mimi Fairy again. Saturday, her best friend Emily came over to play and Emily doesn't have a mimi anymore. And yesterday, K collected all her mimis herself and put them in a bag. Then an envelope and then put a stamp on the envelope. She was serious about getting those mimis to the Mimi Fairy. Never asked for a mimi all day long - not at nap, not in the car, not at bedtime. So...I guess the Mimi Fairy was coming. We certainly hadn't planned for this! Thankfully, we'd over-splurged at Christmas and decided to hold something back...just in case the Mimi Fairy needed to come soon. So, when my big girl woke up, she found that the Mimi Fairy has brought her a pony.

She LOVES her horse-y and has made dozens of laps around the main floor so far. I have some video that I'll try to post later (sorry, the lighting is bad in the house!) Horse-y isn't named yet...K liked Durango (although horse-y looks more like Traveler). Tried to convince her to name him (her? it?) Dumond but she's kinda stuck on Magilla for now.
